Definition of Art Photography Female Form
I have a giant pet peeve when it comes to what Americans "think" is art photography of the female form. Most people think of the photographs in Playboy Magazine as being art photography. I don't. Fundamentalist would on the whole classify art photography of the female form (especially the nude) as pornography. It's definitely not that. So what is it?
First of all when you think of people photographing the female form, especially the nude female form, there is a whole hierarchy of classification. I would put pornography at the very bottom and I definitely would not define it in any way as artful but rather degrading. At the very top of that hierarchy would be art photography of the nude female form.
When you gaze at an artistic photograph of the female form right away you can tell that the model is being posed and lit with the utmost respect. Always try to decern the intent of the photographer. Is he/she being gratuitous in any way or is the photographer trying to make a statement about the beauty of the human body.
Look again, do you get the sense that the photographer is honoring the subject matter by rendering an image that speaks first and foremost to the viewers highest sensibilites. Do you get the feeling that the nude is being photographed as though it were akin to a lovely landscape?
A good example of art photography of the female form are the images of Alfred Cheney Johnston who was the premier Ziegfeld Follies photographer during the Jazz Age. Most of his photography was of the stars of the Follies. But it was discovered after his death that he'd done a number of photographs using nude models. If you look at the photographs of his clothed models right next to those images of the nude models you will fine no difference in his intent to take artful photographs.
In all his images he shows nothing but a fine artist's artistic approach to shooting photographs of the female form. You can see that his intent is always to glorify women and their place in the world.
So the next time you look at a photograph of a woman, I hope you will have a better understanding of what constitutes art photography of the female form. Art photography will ALWAYS be based in integrity and the classic rules of the fine arts.

Making a Beginning in Nude Photography
Nude photography suffers from the stigmatization of easily accessible pornography, and many people don't distinguish between the two. Unlike pornography, though, which seeks to eroticize the human form and titillate the viewer, nude photography celebrates the human body in all its forms. Done correctly, nude photography can engender an appreciation of the human form.
As a beginning photographer with a desire to do nude photography, start first with studying the nude photography of some great photographers, such as Edward Weston and Alfred Stieglitz. Studying their nude photography technique will go a long way toward helping you define what you want to do with your nude photography.
For beginners in nude photography, it might be best to start more simply with still life as you hone your photography skills of lighting, focus and exposure. Portraiture will help hone skills of posing models and building a rapport with your subjects. Joining a class on drawing nudes will help you overcome initial embarrassment before hiring a nude photography model.
When you get ready to approach someone about modeling for your nude photography, make sure you have a portfolio ready. If you don't have any nude photography experience yet, include the best of your still lifes and portraits.
Make sure with a signed "model release" that your nude photography model is over 18. The release can also stipulate other agreed-upon issues, such as publishing limitations and whether to release the model's name. Make certain your nude photography doesn't violate city ordinances.
Ensure that your models feel secure. Have a chaperone or assistant or suggest that they bring a friend with them to your nude photography sessions. If they feel comfortable, you'll get better photos.
You may be expecting to fill your nude photography portfolio with beautiful, young models; consider broadening your range in order to make nude photography as respectable as portraiture.

Nude Photography the Most Popular Type of Photography
The style of Nude photography is one of the most popular types of photography with professionals and amateur photographers! A newbie can be at times motivated by lust to mask a true photographic career!
If you are an amateur photographer, hire an experienced nude model; it can be enormously helpful when starting out. An experienced model will not need a lot of directions or tips. They know how to pose, and/or move their body in ways that are flattering to them, and will help you look good also.
Whenever I shoot an experienced model, I have pre-determined my lighting, and backdrops I intend to use, and have gone over the shoot in my head many times! Trust me this is not the time for trying out new equipment, ideas or not having a plan!
If you are working with a model that does not have Nude experience, it is your job to give direction, posing, support, and suggestions. I will ask if they had any poses in mind. I feel it's my job to keep the model comfortable; I never start out with her naked on the first shot. It's important to tell a model to bring with them something they feel comfortable in, a bra and panty set, a teddy, or some piece of lingerie or swimwear.
In working with a model who has told you she has never posed nude before is more than likely telling a little white lie. It may be true that she never posed nude with a professional photographer, but what about those pictures her boyfriend took? Also the photos she may have had a friend snap "just to see how see looked" or were going to be a surprise for someone very special!
My only point is the model has been naked before, and maybe she was using her bedroom, the basement, or even outdoors in the woods down the lane... It's your job when you interview her to find out what makes her comfortable, is it a person, place, or item of clothing?
Great, now I have something to help me, help her to feel more comfortable with me! I will also ask a model to bring a few of their favorite images of themselves to the shoot so I can ask what it is about that picture they liked. This is also a great opportunity to have them tell me what the outcome they are hoping for is. When you add all this together, it will help you determine the type of poses that will work best to fit with your overall plan. This should help the photo shoot go with ease.
Many women will have different reasons they want a nude portfolio done! Regularly, it's to visually document this period in their lives. Many women will regret not having photos taken when they were younger. Conversely, they realize now having this photo shoot will prevent greater regret later. The wish to have a nude portfolio done is becoming more and more a desire women want to do for themselves! It's true, women want to feel beautiful, a portfolio can help them recall this moment in time.
Photographers, please remember the best manner to learning the techniques for producing a quality nude portfolio is to study the masters! There are many... Studying references and books from a master photographer will be one of the most important lessons you can learn anywhere. Also practice, practice and more practice!
A true quality nude portfolio starts with trust. The client has to trust you the photographer, to make them look sexy, desirable, forever young, and feminine. Remember all women are beautiful, and should be respected by their photographer first and foremost! Respect will build trust; it relaxes the client, and draws out their confidence.
I cannot ever imagine myself getting tired of the sight of a woman in all her glorious nudity and the language of her body. To me, the female body is fascinating, tantalizing, seductive, mysterious, and desirable! I simply hope that I can sufficiently capture and display their beauty in a manner she deserves.
Like the beauty of flowers, photographing a nude woman will need the proper surroundings to reach the height of her beauty!

Nude Art Photography
Nude photography is the genre of art photography, whose subject is the representation of the naked (full nude) or partially naked (half nude) human body.
The aesthetic value of nude photography and its boundary to erotic photography can only be determined with difficulty and inter-subjectively and is also affected by its numerous overlaps with pornography. In consequence, nude photography and erotic photography always find themselves branded in multiple ways, and labelled as works of artistic freedom, aesthetics, kitsch, junk or provocation. The boundaries of nude photography, erotic photography and pornography are so undefined and continuously changing that they are always determined and defined by the subjective moral view of the individual and the generally accepted cultural confines of "customs and tradition".
Whether the picture itself is art or junk always lies in the eye of the beholder. One (subjective) definition of the worth of a nude photograph is: "A nude photo is then good, when the Model shows it around at the coffee table at her grandmother's birthday party and receives positive feedback." (G
Maternity Photography – Getting Professional Pregnancy Portraits
Maternity Portraits have become very popular over the last ten years. The pregnancy of each child is looked on as a special event for the family that should be documented with professional photography - almost as significant as the wedding photographs in terms of the evolution of a family. For the professional photographer and client there are several key elements to consider when creating the maternity portraits.
The timing of the maternity session is very important. You do not want to do the session too early and not have an impressive belly, but you do not want to wait so late so that the woman is swollen in the feet and ankles and miserable. Given these parameters, 32 to 36 weeks is a good, happy medium that usually works well. Of course if the woman is having multiples, then adjust the time accordingly.
Another thing to consider is who will be at the maternity session and in the photos? Clearly the pregnant woman will be there, but should the partner and other children also be in the session? This is a great time for a family portrait before the family expands. But it can also be a nice session to do as a more private study of the woman and the curves and the new life inside of her.
Choosing the location for the maternity session is key. Things to think about are whether the woman would be comfortable showing some skin in public places like a beach, city scape or meadow - or would it be better to have more privacy and do the session at a photography studio or at home?
The desired style of the resulting images should also be carefully considered. Should they be more moody and shadowy, or light and airy, more traditional, or sexy, or fun and funky? Figuring out the style or styles of the pregnancy portraits can be done by looking on the internet for examples of other maternity photography that you like.
After having figured out the location and the styles, figuring out what to wear should be a bit easier now. For maternity sessions, the choice of what to wear includes; wearing clothes with the belly showing, doing semi-nudes with clothing, bathing suits or lingerie, doing semi-nudes with fabrics and sheers, or full nude maternity photography.
Once the decision has been made to do a professional maternity photography session, one thing to think about is what to do with the resulting images. Should they hang on the wall in the living room, the baby room, or will they be more private and be in the master bedroom? Or perhaps they will be put into a fine art maternity album so that can be seen by only the eyes they are intended for.
After having done the professional maternity session, adding an artistic newborn photography session would be an excellent idea. Framed body parts from the maternity session including close ups of hands and bellies can be combined into a modern wall collage with close-ups of baby feet, hands and face. Creating an album from the pregnancy portraits and newborn portraits is another wonderful way to celebrate the new life in your family.
